Holiday registration

The new Danish Holiday Act came into force on 1 September 2020, and you can now take holiday as you earn it – i.e. 2.08 holiday days per month of employment, totalling 25 days of holiday per year. The holiday year runs from 1 September to 31 August (12 months), and the holiday period runs from 1 September - 31 December (16 months).

As for the special holidays, there are no changes: You accrue 5 special holidays from January - December (the calendar year). The special holidays must be taken in the period 1 May - 30 April (the following year).

By signing in to mitHR (, you can see your holiday balance and other balances and registered holiday and absence.

If you have accrued the right to take full holiday with pay, the 5 weeks of holiday and the 5 special holiday days will be registered as follows:

  • 4 weeks in July (weeks 27, 28, 29, 30)
  • 1 week around Christmas (a total of 5 days immediately before Christmas and between Christmas and New Year)

Special holidays:

  • 2 days during winter holidays (week 7)
  • 3 days before Easter

If you would like to reschedule your holiday, you must inform your absence administrator as soon as possible and no later than one day prior to the pre-scheduled holiday

(If you have not accrued full holiday entitlement, the accrued days of holiday will be registered according to the above-mentioned principles).

The department will regularly check the status of outstanding holiday entitlements.

Please note that - for accounting reasons - your holiday registration in mitHR should now be made before or in the month of the actual holiday, and that no changes can be made to your scheduled holiday after it should have taken place.
