As part of our Early Career Development Programme at MGMT, we have a mentor programme for our assistant professors and postdocs.
The purpose of the mentor programme is to improve the work experience, the academic development, and integration of you as a postdoc or assistant professor into the department’s routines and activities.
We encourage mentees and mentors to meet at least twice per semester to maintain a continuous and constructive dialogue.
While the content of those conversations is entirely up to you, we strive to match mentors and mentees based on shared research and teaching interests—unless a different preference has been expressed by the postdoc or the assistant professor. This approach is intended to support discussions that contribute meaningfully to academic development, alongside any other topics you as postdoc or assistant professor may wish to discuss.
Please note that all conversations between mentor and mentee are confidential.
For assistant professors on a tenure track, it is important to emphasize that mentors will not be involved in the formal assessment process for tenure. The mentor–mentee relationship is expected to continue for as long as the mentee holds their current position.
All new postdocs or assistant professors will be assigned when entering their position. The mentor will be selected among the department’s professors, associate professors and experienced assistant professors.
The Head of Early Career Development is responsible in collaboration with the Head of Section to which the new staff member belongs for appointing the mentor. It is the responsibility of the mentee to approach the mentor.
The mentor will offer advice and ideas about life as an academic both in general and at the university and the department, based on his/her own experience and/or any other topics you as postdoc or assistant professor may wish to discuss.
Mentorship is considered to be part of the job description of a faculty member; no teaching hours will be allocated nor will pay supplements be given for acting as mentor.
Should any challenges arise or if you have questions regarding the mentoring relationship, please do not hesitate to contact the Head of early career development
