Securing person-environment fit with e-selection

Everyone is welcome!

Information and communication technologies are being increasingly used by organisations to facilitate selection process. This approach in management literature is commonly referred to as e-selection. More specifically, e-selection is often defined as the use of various forms of technology, such as online application screening, web-based test, videoconference interviews, to help organisations to screen applicant data, assess individual knowledge, abilities, skills and other characteristics (Stone, Lukaszewski, Stone-Romero, & Johnson, 2013.) The paper views selection objectives in the light of maximising Person-Environment (PE) fit. The PE fit concept is broadly defined as the compatibility between an individual and a work environment that occurs when their characteristics are well matched (Kristof-Brown, Zimmerman, & Johnson, 2005). The presented research addresses a number of gaps in the extant research on e-selection and puts forward a heuristic model of an e-selection process that seeks maximizing PE fit from the organisation’s perspective.
